The Land of the Book of Mormon

Hello everyone! I am in the Land of the Libro de mormon! Amd it is an adventure. I flew out Last Tueday. We landed in Xalapa, had a 2 hour buss ride to the apartment we stayed at. And then went to bed. The next morining we got ready and headed to a Church. At the Church our mission President, Presidente Perkins. He interviewed all of us. In my interview he Presidente Perkins said I had a special Spirit, and I was called to this mission before I was born. Presidente is really nice, and laid back. After my interview, I was introduced to my comp, Elder Chan! He is from México, and has been out on his mission for 1 year. He is really cool! I thought it would be hard having a native comp, but its not. I speak enough spanish, and he Speaks enough english, so we get by. I asked him where He learned english, and he just pointed to a Taylor Swift álbum we have in our apartment. So if Taylor Swift was a Mexican, my spanish would he a lot better.

It was a 7 hour buss ride to my area. My area is called Poza Rica, and it is intresting. Our apartment is nicer than I thought it would be. Our land Lord is a crazy old lady though, she is scary. Me and Elder Chan try to avoid her. The showers here are short, cold, and from a bucket. Living here has made me realize how spoiled I am. And I have only been here for a week. But will never take the little the little things for granted again. We also have ants everywhere in out apt. I bought some pop tarts, and the next morning when i opend them, they where coverd in ants. So I now put everything in the fridge.

The mission life is a lot diffrent than home life. We are out street contacting most of the day. It is hard because I honestly dont know what is going on most of the time. I just say, "how are you doing?" And then my comp takes over. He called me a lion my first day because I talked to all of our taxi drivers. We taught one lesiones Last week. And I had no clue what was happening. The guy really liked me though. We where speeking spanglish back and Forth. The Streets are pretty run down because its México, and a huricane hit Poza Rica a week before I got here. But every thing that is not man made is really pretty. I love the jungle. Its my favorito part of living here.

The food is also really good. We ate with some members, and everything was really good. We where talking about covid with one member, and I was trying to say the shot made me sick, and made my will to eat go away. But I must have said it wrong becuase she just stared giving me things for my stomach, and then she gave me soup. I tried to tell here I was fine, but you cant say no to a Mexican. They just dont listen. But it turned out to be a good thing. The next day I had a hamberger, and it made me really sick. I thing I got food poising. My stomach was in a lot of pain for a couple days. But my comp gave me a blessing, and the next day I was fine.

It is a rollercoster here, I never know what is going on. I am speaking better spanish, but I struggle listening and understanding spanish. The days are hard, but something everyday brings me Joy. The Lord is watching out for me. Please in your prayers tonight think of all the little things that bring you Joy, because they are important. I always knew I was blessed, but know I know how blessed I am. God is good, and he loves all of his children. Even though the people here poor, they love life. They are so humble, I am exited to learn there ways. I love all of the people, they are amazing. I get a lot of looks, because I am tall and White. They call me the Gringo companion. The drunk mexicans like yelling, "Gringo!!! #$%@." They think it is really funny to swear at me in spanish because they think I dont understand what they are saying. But even though they swear at me, they love me, and they love talking to me even more.

God is good, and if you have a desire to serve him you are called to the Work.
