A Spiritual Buffet
I was definitely spiritually fed this week, it was Incredible! I had Zone conference, and a 70 Adrian Ochoa showed up. It was definitely needed, because I came out so thankful for Jesus, and crazy motivated to do the work of the Lord. Also this conference President gave his talk in English, and had an AP translate for him. That is definitely the way to go, his message was incredible. I now know why he is my President. Any way onto the week!
On Tuesday Elder Sanderson had to go up to Xalapa again to finish some gringo card stuff. Our district leader had to do the same thing, so they went together. Zone conference was in Xalapa, so they stayed there until Friday. That left me with Elder Casas. Elder Casas is so funny so we had a great time for a couple of days. For example, I walked into my room to grab something, and when I came out and looked at him, his eyebrow had a slit in it. He just looked at my razor for a second, and decided to slit his eyebrow knowing that we were going to see a member of the 70 in a day. He is just a character. But he was effective, so it was fun learning from him. We had a bit of a scary story though. We were doing stuff in the office of the church, when from the corner of my eye I saw something crawling through the door. I looked, and it was a massive tarantula! We both tried to kill it, but it ran from us, and hid in a tiny crack behind a bookshelf. The rest of the night we were on edge, but we didn't see it again. The next day came, and we did our studies in the office. We went that whole day with the thought that a giant spider is in the office with us. But we didn't see anything, so I thought it left in the night. The next day we went back to the office to print our bus tickets off. So I was on the computer, searching for our tickets while Elder Casas was going to turn on the AC. He looked at me, and told me in the little English he knows, "Elder Mitchell don't look up!" He has been scaring me all week because he knows I hate spiders, so I wasn't too scared. But then I saw his face go white, and he started to scoot back in his chair. At this point my pants are a bit wet, so I slowly look up. And literally right above my head Is the tarantula! So we both zoom out of the room, grab a broom, and kill the thing. It was creepy. I HATE SPIDERS!!!
That same day we went up to Xalapa, and I was reunited with my son. We stayed in the secretary's house for the night, and that was a blast! There were about 12 other missionaries there, so we just partied the whole time. Looking for scriptures that roast people. So if you have any, send them my way! The next day we had the best conference I have ever been to! President was just on fire. And helped me realize that Jesus Christ is everything. And the best missionaries are the missionaries that love Jesus with all their heart. He is also so funny. He had a lot of great quotes, but my favorite is this one, " Ok! We are going to start out in the Book of Mormon today... Everyone turn to DNC!." In his defence the scripture talked about the good book, but it just made us all laugh. The thing he said that really pierced my soul came from Joseph Smith( who I just absolutely love now). I can't remember the way it went, but it was pretty much that whoever has the Melchizedek Priesthood chose to follow God in the premortal life, accepted his plan, and was trusted to be a servant of God in this life. That really just hit me. My duty on this earth is to be a missionary for Jesus Christ. Sacrifice some time away from my family so others can be with their family for eternity. God is just so GOOD! I still feel the spirit from Zone conference. It's awesome!
This week has been really hard for the area not going to lie. We had our plan A, B, and C cancel on us one day. Sometimes I feel like Mosies walking around in the desert. But Saturday made up for all of it. We had a lesson with this guy named Kevin! He contacted us, and said he has some questions about the bible. So we met with him, and he was not who I thought he was going to be. He came in, and told us that he didn't believe in God, he just believed in a higher being. The only reason he met with us was to see what "Mormonism" was. So he asked all kinds of questions. Our lesson lasted for 2 1/2 hours. And we taught him all three lessons. He was just eating up everything we said! He is super smart, and intelligent, and told us he could read the Book of Mormon in 10 days! We shared Moroni 10 with him, and he just kept reading after we finished the scriptures we wanted to read with him! The spirit was literally so strong the whole time. I just felt like he was special. He came in not believing in God, and walked out with 4 pamphlets, a Book of Mormon, and the desire to be baptised! Me and Elder Sanderson both felt the spirit so strong! It was crazy. He didn't show up to church yesterday, and that broke my heart. But he is still reading the good book, so I am still pumped. I can't wait to meet with him again!
Anyway, this week was awesome! But I want to drop a little thought. God has so much trust in us, it honestly blows my mind. But that's because he knew who we were before this life, and he knows who we can be. The only way we can reach our full potential is by turning to Jesus Christ, and using his atonement. I know that repenting daily, and following Jesus Christ's simple gospel is the only way we can truly find happiness in this life. And as I have become more grateful for the gospel, and the gifts I have been given, my happiness has skyrocketed. Jesus Christ has always loved me, and as I have learned to love him back things just start making sense. He has trusted me to be here, guide his children back to him, and help his kingdom grow. After all he has given me, I don't know why I wouldn't serve him. Anyway I hope that everything is going good for you guys back at home. You guys are Awesome, and I love you so much! God is good, and use the priesthood! A deacon literally has more power and authority than any President, or King!
